Mutual H1N1 Vaccine Storage Center to be established for sharing vaccine supply with friendly nations

On January 26, 2010, the 41st meeting held by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) was convened by the commander-in-chief of CECC, the Vice Premier of the Executive Yuan, Li-Luan Chu. At the meeting, Vice Premier Chu pointed out that although the H1N1 outbreak in Taiwan has been brought under control according to the H1N1 epidemic surveillance data compiled by the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC), the general public is urged to remain vigilant about warding off H1N1 because it is hard to predict the development of future outbreaks. In addition, CECC has planned to establish a “Mutual H1N1 Vaccine Storage Center” to store the remaining vaccine after the vaccination campaign.

CECC announced that the numbers of H1N1 cases in various countries in the Northern Hemisphere, including Taiwan, have been on the decline. Based on the surveillance data, the epidemic curve is reaching the baseline, signaling the end of the second wave of H1N1 infection. However, it is hard to predict the third wave of H1N1 infection. CECC will continue to closely monitor the epidemic. On the other hand, the World Health Organization (WHO) has planned to include the pandemic influenza A (H1N1) virus in the composition of the 2010 northern hemisphere influenza vaccine, which will be announced in the end of February, 2010.
